CONFESSION TIME. I STARTED LIFE AS A CREATIONIST. Both my parents were creationists (though I suspect my father was changing his attitude on this subject toward the end of his life). I lived most of my life in the South, where religion is a given and most folks are what I call “passive creationists” (they don’t really give the matter much thought, but they’re sure the Bible’s account is pretty much correct).
YEAH, I STOLE THE HEADLINE from another article, but it just seemed so appropriate.
A group disillusioned with a perceived liberal bias at Wikipedia have decided to create their own, “conservative” online encyclopedia: Conservapedia.Â
Please note the quotes around “conservative.”
THE FORCES OF LUDDISM are on the march again — this time in Mississippi of all places.Â
NCSE is reporting that a bill has been introduced into the Mississippi legislature that would pave the way for the teaching of creationism in school:
RUSH LIMBAUGH (HERE WE GO AGAIN) is a brilliant political commentator, but really should keep his mouth shut when it comes to matters science. Continue Reading »
WE VETERANS OF THE CREVO WARS often hear creationists triumphantly crow, “evolution is just a theory; it’s never been proved!” Well, it’s true evolution has never been proved — indeed, nothing in science is ever proved. Proof is something that can only be found in the realms of mathematics. And, even then, proof might equal “True” but it doesn’t necessarily equal “Correct.”
RUSH LIMBAUGH DEVOTED HIS JULY 11 “Morning Minute” to an attack on Rachel Carson and her 1962 book, Silent Spring. According to Limbaugh, Carson is responsible for more human death and misery than Stalin or Mao, claiming that the environmental backlash generated by her book led to the banning of DDT, which until then had been used to eradicate Malaria-bearing mosquitoes. Malaria, Limbaugh claimed, now infects upward of 400 million people every year, and claims some 2 million souls each year (a death rate of 500 per 100,000 — or about 0.5% of those infected).
ANN COULTER’S NEW BOOK, Godless: The Church of Liberalism, hit the bookstores yesterday and is certain to be a bestseller. Many of you will have yet to receive your copies (provided you actually spent money on this drivel); however, an excerpt of the first chapter of the book was published at townhall.com Tuesday. It should give you an idea of what a howler this book is.
CHURCHES IN THE SOUTH have a tradition of putting pithy, inspirational, or otherwise relevant sayings on their marquees in an effort to attract notice, and hopefully new members and visitors. A church about three-quarters of a mile from my house has sported a two-liner for the past couple of weeks: “God said it. I believe it.”
The first thing that crossed my mind when I saw this was, “but did God actually say it?”
RUSH LIMBAUGH IS ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT when it comes to skewering the left and has a grasp of political reality that is second to none. His innate talent in this regard has catapulted him to being the de facto spokesperson for the conservative movement in this country.
